I got your point. But again if a woman wears a proper hijab and cover her body from head to toe does this mean that she is a decent woman and a good Muslim? Are all women wearing hijab angels?

Why we continue to judge people by their appearances? Is Islam requested us to do so?

The same idea is applicable to men. We tend to think that men with long beards and short thobs are more religious than the others. Its not the appearance only, some people think that a “Mulla” or “Shaikh” will never lie or commit a sin and they will listen to their advices and instructions with open ears even if they don’t hold any kind of qualifications in “Sharia’a” or “Figh”. Why? Because they know better or they are more close to God!

[...] Butterfly tells us about an encounter with a colleague outside of the workplace: Several days ago in one of the malls a girl stopped me, and her features seemed familiar…For a moment I thought it might be a colleague from work, but there was a big difference in the appearance of the two. My colleague, ever since I have known her, wears hijab (headscarf), and I have never seen her wearing short or tight clothes, just as she doesn’t wear any makeup on her face. When she put out her hand to greet me I knew for certain my suspicion was correct, and she was the same colleague that I know. I asked her about the reason for the big transformation in her appearance which had surprised me. She said she didn’t always wear hijab, and only wore it during official work hours, and this was her normal way of dressing. Why this double life? Aren’t men the same wherever they are? She answered, ‘Yes, with one small difference. I deal with those men for eight continuous hours during the working day, but outside, wherever I am, I am away from this closed circle of daily monitoring, from the annoying looks that follow me. I wear hijab during office hours because men usually talk more daringly to women without the hijab. This covering that I put on my head puts a clear boundary between me and those who do not respect women and do not behave well towards them unless they are wearing hijab.’ [...]

ok ok ok guys. seems you missunderstood what I was saying. I didn't mean to say that mutahajibat are better than none mutahajibat and it was the fault of non mutahjibat to recieve bad treatment.

To put some clear points to the arugments. When I refer to Hijab I dont mean the head scarf only. A hijab for me means the islamic head scarf which implies that the woman who wears it wont wear tight jeans, sexy make-up etc.

In reality mutajibat does recieve more respect (respect here refers to the limits that a man sees when approaching the woman) everywhere and its a fact that I can't deny. A fact is different than an opinion. And my opinion is that any woman who wears hijab or not should recieve the same respect.

I said the article was sexist (to some extent) becuase I dont personaly like to blame one gender for anything. What happens in any community is the result of mature fault of both genders. If a woman for example is badly treated by a man, I cant only blame the man for being empty-headed. The fault could be her too becuase she might have been wearing sex-invitation cloths or walking in the wrong street.

to shaikh: if men are قوامون and are asked to curb their urges in many things (like in fasting, or resisting temptation of drinking, or prostitution, or killing, or bribe, and the list continues) why can't they treat women with respect and not like sexual objects weather those women are wearing a head scarf or not? I know many muhajabat who wear super-tight cloths, very sexy make-up and hyper sexy vioce on the phone.. isn't the stuffing that matters more than the appearance. I didn't think that butterlfy's article was sexit at all. She was describing what women go through for reasons that boil down to lack of manners and thinking in the part of many men. How to treat another person respectfully is not a matter that is restricted to islam or sexist arguments.. it's a matter of civility and appreciation of other people's humanity and boundaries.
